Elevations (i.e. 2.5D) in games seems to be handled differently in orthogonals and isometric maps. Are there any good resources detailing how you would handle it in the various map ways, and possible benefits/disadvantages with each approach?

That would require moving away from Cocos however, so that is unlikely. Doing away with elevation is more realistic for me.
But the examples of TMK does show cliffs with elevation.
